Water & Soil Conservation:
It initiated water and soil conservation programme at watershed level in the year 1994 in Ranapur block of Jhabua district with UNEP supported project on “Environmental Soil Degradation Control and then implemented watershed development/ management projects with financial support from Rajiv Gandhi Watershed Mission (RGM), CASA, CAPART and WFP in the districts of Vidisha, Sehore, Narmadapuram(Hoshangabad), Ujjain, Jhabua and Dhar. Under IWMP / Pradhan Mantri Sinchai Yojana the Watershed development programme was implemented in Jhabua, Mandsaur, Sehore and Dhar districts of Madhya Pradesh.
NCHSE has completed over 325 projects so far mainly focussing on rural development through natural resources management, restoration of degraded ecosystem, sustainable agricultural practices, water and sanitation, livelihood promotion etc. In the urban landscape, its focus has been on carrying capacity based urban development, improving urban basic services, protection of green cover and protection of wetlands and other water bodies.
NCHSE has brought more than two million ha area in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan under its flagship programme of Integrated Watershed Development leveraging resources from Government and several National and International organizations. Capacity building of the local community for project implementation and post project maintenance and livelihood promotion are its essential components.
In partnership with UNDP and Water Resource Department, GoMP, NCHSE implemented a pilot sproject to demonstrate recharge shafts as an adaptation option for participatory Ground Water Management in Burhanpur and Ratlam Districts of Madhya Pradesh.
